Uhhm. Not sure about spoiler alerts on this one, I'm not a film critic, this is ust a personal review, BUT reading through it, there are quite a few annoying little reveals of epic parts, so unless you've seen it, don't read! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!
Went to see Dreamworks' 'How to Train your Dragon' last weekend and was... blown...a-...way. My goodness me I adored this film! I walked out of the cinema with a shocked face the length of a bargepole. It is awe-strikingly, breathtakingly, indescribably good; but I'm gonna give it a damn good try anyway. The reason i love Dreamworks is the way they're not limited by the Disney cage that restricts writers of the Disney classics from using any cursing worse than 'gosh' or 'darn', or injuries worse than a good winding, and with this film I think that freedom really shines through not only within the writing, but the types of adversity and relationship conflicts the characters have to overcome(ohmygodtheending!!). The storyline touches upon things I haven't seen explored in such depth in an animated film such as Hiccup's fustrating relationship with his father, and things I haven't seen since Disney's 'Fox and the Hound'; the whole forbidden friendship thing. It truely has everything; so many powerful, strikingly sad or intense scenes weaving perfectly between an endearing storyline teaching friendship, trust, pride and acceptance(with lots of funny parts crammed in there).
I can't help myself, I love the scenes that ust build and build with intensity and emotion to a shocking conclusion! The best I've seen this done in animation is in Disney's 'The Incrdibles' where the jet is about to explode and there's all this tension and pressure and shouting as Violet tries to shield them and Helen is shouting and more and more things are revealed as the scene progresses and the conclusio is brought to you in a flash!.... it makes me so excited and yet i want to cry at the same time! I havent found a scene that memorable until HTTYD; There's a scene where truths are revealed and Hiccup and his father are engaged in an intense argument, and his father's just not listening and it's so frustrating and powerful, and then the shocking ending comes and it's just so sad an exciting and amazing all at the same time!! i love scenes like that...!
I think i'm done... yeah. Amazing film, seen it twice since the weekend... getting a bit obsessed.... i think it's time for some fanart!
